A career as a wedding planner can be very rewarding. Your job is to help couples make the dream of a perfect wedding day a reality. You will meet with the couples, or sometimes the bride and her parents depending on who is in charge of planning the wedding, and during the initial consultation you will learn more about them and what kind of wedding and reception they want. The first meeting is also the time to discuss their budget and your fees. You will be taught in your wedding planning courses about how much to bill your clients. Some planners charge a percentage of the wedding budget while others charge by the hour.

Whether you specialize in just weddings or choose a career in wedding and event planning, it is important to enjoy working with people. You will also need the ability to multitask and at times, work under tight deadlines. Event planning doesn't always go smoothly, so you should be skilled at handling stress and getting the job done.
