The career of a wedding planner can be a rewarding one, both personally and professionally. As a wedding planner, you are helping engaged couples achieve their dream ceremony and reception. Not only that, but some wedding planners make good pay. Of course the pay amount is never guaranteed, in any business. It all depends on your location, how busy you are, how large the weddings you plan are, and how much you charge. Some wedding planners charge a percentage of the wedding budget, such as 10 or 20 percent, while others charge an hourly rate or a flat fee.

If you have a way with people and are skilled with handling multiple tasks at once under a deadline, this might be the perfect career for you. A good first step is to investigate training courses for wedding planners. Many of the courses these days are distance learning courses. This means you get to do your coursework from the comfort of home, when it is convenient for you. If you prefer a traditional classroom setting, there may be event planning or wedding planning courses at your local community college.

Learning how to be a wedding planner is an involved process and the right course will teach you everything you need to know from the actual procedures of planning the wedding to advertising your business. If you do go the distance learning route, it is easy to compare different programs just by surfing the Web. Many feature their class syllabus on their website so you will see exactly what you will be learning. There should also be contact information listed and tuition prices. Usually financial aid is not available for wedding planning courses but they may offer financing plans. These plans may allow you to pay monthly for your schooling rather than all at once.

One of the most important things you'll learn is what to expect when starting a wedding planning business. It can be hard for new wedding planners to get clients, however the right school will teach you how to overcome the obstacle of being new and get your name out there. The first thing you'll do is build a portfolio that you will show clients, and even if you've never worked an actual wedding before the school should teach you how to put together a portfolio that can get you started. Starting a wedding planning business, or any business for that matter, isn't easy. However with the right education and determination, you can build a successful career.
